Justine Munro
Executive Director, Education

Justine is responsible for the development and implementation of SVA’s education strategy. Justine is an experienced non-profit sector professional with a strong track record in leading social change initiatives, most recently as Founder/CEO of the New Zealand Centre for Social Innovation. She has worked as a Senior Associate with McKinsey & Company, and as a specialist Indigenous lawyer, assisting Indigenous clients with land rights, environmental and governance issues. Justine has also been involved in a number of ground-breaking projects in the NZ social sector including: Establishing the social venture Accelerator (later the Springboard Trust), NZ’s first venture philanthropy vehicle; and conceiving and developing the Starpath Project, a research and practice initiative focused on equal access to tertiary education for Maori and Pacific Island students.

In 2008, Justine founded the NZ Centre for Social Innovation as a vehicle for bringing public, private and community partners together to create new solutions to NZ’s most pressing social needs.

Justine holds a Masters in Law from Oxford University as a NZ Rhodes Scholar.

Kevin Robbie
Executive Director, Employment

Kevin is responsible for the development and implementation of SVA’s employment strategy. The Employment team collaborates with funding partners and sector participants to improve employment outcomes for disadvantaged Australians, by creating pathways to employment for youth at risk, and creating new jobs for those excluded from the labour market. Located in Melbourne, Kevin is also Director of Victoria.

Kevin has over 15 years of social sector experience in the UK. He has held a number of senior management positions, including seven years as Chief Executive of Forth Sector, one of Scotland’s leading social enterprises. He has run projects and written a number of publications for the Scottish Government around measuring social added value, new approaches to social investment, tendering for public sector contracts, new approaches to commissioning public services and business development.

Prior to joining SVA, Kevin was on secondment to the UK Government’s Cabinet Office as an advisor on both impact measurement and the role of social enterprises in employment creation for those that are long-term unemployed.

Alison Barry

Development Manager

Alison joined SVA in July 2009 where her responsibilities include securing and managing strategic funder relationships.
Alison is a highly experienced public relations practitioner with 15 years marketing communications experience in CSR, education, issues management and NPD in a career that has spanned the UK, Australia and Singapore markets.

Prior to joining SVA, she headed up the Consumer Marketing Division of Burson-Marsteller’s Singapore office where her clients included those from government, technology, financial services, and consumer sectors.

Katie Barry
Investor Relations Manager

Katie joined SVA’s employment team in August 2011, and is responsible for developing and managing funder relationships. Katie has eight years of experience working for non-profit organisations primarily in relationship, marketing and events management.

Prior to joining SVA, Katie managed philanthropic relationships for Restless Development, a youth-led international development agency, and the Surf Life Saving Foundation.

Katie is a Director for Restless Development Australia.

Susan Black
Manager, Employment

Susan has been with SVA since 2006, when it initiated the first Social Enterprise Hub in Australia in Brisbane.

Susan has twenty years experience in community development and management from both within government and non-government sectors. She is currently a Director of Oxfam Australia and an associate of the Centre for Social Response, a community development training organisation.

Susan has a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and Master of Social Welfare Administration and Planning, both from the University of Queensland.

Penny Brown
Development Manager – Education

Penelope joined SVA’s education team in 2011. She works closely with the Executive Director on projects, alliances and partnerships, and facilitating knowledge sharing and advocacy work in support of the Education Team’s goals.

Prior to joining SVA, Penelope worked as an education consultant for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in New York and The World Bank in Washington D.C. where she worked in the poverty reduction and economic management unit. Penelope was a secondary school teacher in Sydney, Australia for seven years and had the opportunity to work as a department chair, welfare coordinator, and as part of a leadership team responsible for designing and implementing a new 21st Century model for teaching and learning.

Penelope holds a dual MPA / Ed.M from Harvard University and a B.A./M Teach. from The University of Sydney.

Louise Caseley

Louise has joined SVA to manage processes associated with grant management and acquittals.

Louise has over seven years of experience in the non-profit sector, coming most recently from the partnership fundraising team at the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) in the UK. She has extensive experience in project managing major partnerships between charities and UK Government bodies, companies and individual donors.

Louise holds a BA (Hons) International Business from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Andrew Hamilton
Manager, Employment

Andrew’s SVA responsibilities include portfolio management and corporate and investor support in Queensland. He has been with SVA since 2006, when it initiated the first Social Enterprise Hub in Australia in Brisbane.

Andrew holds a BComm and MBA and has specialised in sales and marketing roles. These roles include senior management positions in the financial services and technology sectors for small entrepreneurial firms in Brisbane.

He has served on the boards of Foresters Community Finance and Jabiru Community Youth and Children’s Services Association.

Claire Kearney

Business Manager

Claire joined SVA in November 2008, working out of the Melbourne office. Prior to SVA, Claire worked at Quiller Consultants, a strategic communications consultancy in London, advising clients on a range of issues including media relations, public affairs, communications strategy and reputation management. Claire worked on a variety of different clients including New Philanthropy Capital and Bridges Ventures. Prior to Quiller, Claire worked as a Research Associate for Ireland’s leading think-tank on European politics, The Institute of European Affairs. Claire holds an MSc in International and European Politics from The University of Edinburgh and an International Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours) in History and Politics from University College Dublin.

Melissa Macpherson

Manager, Social Investment

Melissa joined SVA in March 2010 to focus on identifying opportunities to more fully leverage the SVA network and deepen our engagement with the philanthropic sector.

After launching her career in accounting at KPMG, Melissa moved into investment banking, where she spent 11 years working for Macquarie Bank, Allco Finance Group and Deutsche Bank in Sydney, London, Tokyo and New York, specialising in risk management and investor relations. Melissa transitioned into the non-profit sector in 2008, working at The Australian Charities Fund managing corporate and charity partnerships.

Melissa has a Bachelor of Commerce (UNSW, Co-op Scholar), and most recently in 2009 was awarded and completed a fellowship with the Centre for Sustainability Leadership.

Melissa is currently on maternity leave.

Sophie Massy-Greene
Manager, Education

Sophie joined SVA’s Education team in 2011 and is focused on collaborating with SVA’s education venture partners to meet their strategic goals.

Sophie comes to SVA with over 10 years of consulting experience, most recently as a senior manager in strategy consulting at Crescendo Partners for four years. She also worked for Macquarie Bank for three years as an internal consultant, and prior to that was at Accenture.

Sophie is a Director of Eureka Benevolent Foundation which supports social justice and humanitarian causes across Australia and internationally. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Sydney University majoring in Finance and Accounting and has completed a Change Management course at AGSM.

Maxine McKew

Maxine joined SVA in early 2011 on a consultancy basis to assist SVA with the implementation of its Education strategy and has now transitioned to an advisory role within the Education team.

Maxine’s career spans both politics and journalism. At the 2007 federal election she defeated then Prime Minister John Howard in the Sydney seat of Bennelong. As a member of the Rudd government from 2007-2010 she had responsibility for the portfolios of Early Childhood and later, Infrastructure and Local Government. Prior to her entry into politics, Maxine spent 30 years as a broadcast and print journalist, principally with ABC Television and The Bulletin Magazine.

Maxine’s voluntary activities have included chairmanship of the Advisory Council of the National Breast Cancer Centre, and membership of the Research Centre for Asia Pacific and the Sydney Symphony. Maxine has also taken on roles as patron of Alzheimer’s Australia and is a member of the Advisory Council to Macquarie University’s Australian School of Advanced Medicine.

Emily Preston
Manager, Employment

Emily joined SVA in 2011, focusing on school-to-work initiatives.

Emily comes from an education background, having taught in a disadvantaged London secondary school through the UK’s Teach First program, then working on building business/education links from the corporate sector for the next five years. Prior to joining SVA, Emily worked with Teach For All, a global network of independent social enterprises working to tackle educational inequity in their home countries. She was posted to Australia and came to Melbourne in 2009 to support the start-up of Teach For Australia.

Emily has a BA (Hons) in Languages and Linguistics from the University of York. She also holds a Professional Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and is a qualified secondary school and TEFL teacher.

Mandy Richards
Manager, ACT Social Enterprise Hub

Mandy has 13 years experience across a broad spectrum of industries and sectors. This includes roles with two of Australia’s most significant charities (one as national marketing manager) and at two economic development agencies in Australia and New Zealand, which involved heading up a leading innovation advisory centre as well as leading a creative and eco-technology business incubator from concept stage.

Mandy’s personal business experience has included developing a $3.2m business start up as well as commercialising an invention with international sales.

Mandy holds a Bachelor of Business from the University of Newcastle and a Graduate Certificate in Trade Marks Law and Practice from UTS.

Lisa Siganto
Director, Queensland

Lisa has a long association with SVA, having previously worked with SVA in a number of roles including venture development, strategy, mentoring and philanthropic support.

Lisa brings a wealth of experience to her role, having previously been employed as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company, a partner at Deloitte and an executive coach. Lisa has also run a family service business, co-founded a number of social businesses and serves on a number of Boards.

Lisa has an MBA from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the University of Queensland.
